OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU

MISSION STATEMENT

Using training and education as our foundation, the Santee Fire Service District is committed to providing professional fire and life safety services to the citizens of our community in a fiscally responsible manner.  We, as a team, will strive to minimize losses and suffering through effective emergency service delivery, public education and community involvement.

FIRE STATIONS

Santee Fire Service District operates two stations. Station one is our main staffed location, home to multiple engines and cross-trained firefighter/first responders, with Orangeburg County EMS also housed onsite. Station two supports reserve operations and equipment, with staffing activated during emergencies.

SERVING SINCE 1978

DEPARTMENT HISTORY

The Santee Fire Service District began as a small volunteer team in a rural town on July 24, 1956. By 1979, 22 members had completed training at the South Carolina Fire Academy, with Ron McGonigle named acting chief. A 1980 partnership with Eutawville improved emergency response. In 1982, a public vote established the department as a tax district and launched the Junior Firemen program for ages 12–17. The name officially became the Santee Fire Service District in 1983, and construction began on the first permanent station in 1985.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We're always looking for volunteers.

"Decades of Service. A Lifetime of Protection."

"Protecting the Heart of Santee, One Call at a Time"

The Santee Fire Service District serves and protects everyone in our community, from seniors to adults and young children. Our team blends career firefighters, part-time staff, and dedicated volunteers, all trained in firefighting, rescue, emergency care, and fire prevention. With experience ranging from Ronald Shingler’s service since 1989 to newer members like Gary Elenbark, we bring both wisdom and fresh energy to every call. Under Chief Edward Barnett Jr., a member since 1987, we remain committed to safeguarding lives, property, and the well-being of Santee’s residents of all ages.
